To start off, I can’t even believe that I’m writing a post like this. The girl who completely despised running of any kind. I’m still a beginner and who knows I could call it quits in the next few days, but I managed to achieve my goals for the week. It was definitely something I wasn’t expecting, but for me running is a completely mental thing. I do a fantastic job of talking myself out of anything. But I’m on a bit of a high after getting through my goals for the week that I want to raise the bar a bit and achieve more. From what I heard, it takes 21 days before something becomes a habit. And running is definitely something that I truly want to keep doing. And I’m surprised to find that I love it a lot. I’m sure I’ll have my days, but we’ll see how my mental state is with all of this.
So, I’m calling this my running adventure. I never thought I’d do anything like this, but I’m excited to be on it. I’m looking more towards the progression from now until A gets back from deployment. I’d actually love to make it a little competition and see if I can outrun him. I kind of doubt it, but I love besting him when I can because it rarely happens. Love needs a little competition every now and then, right?
Just like everything that I do, there’s always my essentials. And these have definitely helped with my whole running adventure. I’m sure I’ll be adding more into the mix, but all this will do for now.
My Running Essentials
x | Running Shoes
I actually fell in love with these because of the vibrant colors, but that’s not a good enough reason to buy a shoe. I asked around and read reviews about what people thought about this one. And it was a hit with a lot of people. After wearing them a few times on my runs, I quickly became a fan! They’re super light and comfy, there’s no rubbing at all, which means zero blisters. Originally I ordered a half size up from my original shoe size because that’s what was recommended for running shoes. But it turned out to be slightly bigger, so I ended up ordering my original size.
x | Leggings!
If you follow my Instagram, you know that I’m completely obsessed with leggings and have quite the collection. I’m in the process of trying out each brand that have and seeing which is best for running. Once I have that all figured out, I’ll be writing up a post all about it.
x | MapMyRun App
I’ve actually used this app for my hikes. I like to know my routes, the distances I’ve hiked/ran, gains, and the amount of time it takes me to complete a run/hike. The app also tells you how long it takes you to run a mile, mines pretty pathetic, all about progress, right?
x | Spotify Running – LOVE!
Music is a huge part of my life, it sounds ridiculous but it’s true, I’m constantly listening to music and always searching for new tunes. I don’t know how recent this is, but Spotify now has a running feature; as you start running, it’ll detect your pace and set tracks for you to run to! I think it’s the best thing ever and if the music is a little slow for your pace, you can up it and they’ll instantly find new tracks for you. It has worked out really well for me and there are times when I find myself jamming out to the songs, while I’m running. Definitely helps keep my mind off of being fatigued.
I’ve been on the hunt for a GPS watch and it should be arriving later today. It has been a long time coming and I’ve done a ton of research. I’m ecstatic to try it out and will be sharing my thoughts on it after a few uses.
What are some of your fitness/running essentials?
