I’m back … and I have no idea where to even begin. I suppose there’s so much to share, so this will definitely be a ramble of things.
Where are you?
We are new residents of Northern Virginia and we’ve been enjoying it so far. I definitely like the Alexandria area more than D.C. And I think a big part of that is because I can deal with the driving in Virginia. I’m a little intimidated by it, some drivers are quite aggressive and don’t even get me started with all the honking. Why?! The day we arrived, we checked into our hotel and started apartment hunting right away. And believe it or not, we secured a place the day we arrived. It was a lot easier than we expected it to be. We love our place and we’re just happy with how much our rent is. So much cheaper than Hawai’i and a bit more space. Yet again, it’ll tough to leave this place once it’s time to move again.
Did you guys get a dog?!
Yes we did! We’ve been wanting a dog since 2011, but every rental didn’t allow pets. Thank you, Virginia, for allowing us to add a furry creature to our family. I’ve always wanted to adopt a puppy because there’s so many loveable dogs that need homes. We went through one of the local animal rescues to get our puppy. He is the calmest puppy we have come across, but he’s such a sweetheart. He’s been so much fun to have around! We named him Hāla’i, which means calm/peaceful in Hawaiian. We got so lucky with this dog, he’s pretty much house broken and doesn’t mind his crate one bit. However, we’re quickly learning that he loves our bed, but we’re trying to be stern about that.
How was your roadtrip?
It was amazing and quite exhausting by the end of it. I have so many pictures to share from all of our National Park visits, gorgeous sights all over the U.S. Let’s see, we traveled through 18 states, drove over 3,500 miles and visited 5 national parks. Plus, we drove through a tornado warning and that freaked me out a bit! Nothing like hearing, “Tornado on ground” while you’re driving! Can’t wait to share all our adventures from our trip. Below is a little video of it!
So what exactly are you in Virginia for?
For all that follow me already, you’re pretty much up to date. This summer, we’ll be moving to Slovenia , where A will study towards his masters. It’ll be a nice break for him from the submarine life and we’re definitely going to make the most of it. While we’re here, A will be attending language school, which we were hoping I’d be able to attend, but it didn’t quite work out that way. However, A will be my teacher and work with me as he’s learning. I’ve been searching through Youtube and a few videos that I’ll be referencing back to as I’m learning.
Since I still feel like we’re settling in, hopefully I’ll get some posts out, next week.
Not only am I behind on posts, but I’m behind on reading through all my favorite blogs. So, expect some comments these next couple of weeks!
until next time.
What a sweet pup! I hear you on not wanting to drive in that area. I lived near Norfolk for a while and I really never went to other parts of the state because all those lanes of cars cutting each other off stresses me out!! It’s exciting you found a place to live so quickly. Good luck getting settled and I hope you continue enjoying Alexandria!!!
Thank you, we love him so much! I think he’ll get his own post on the blog haha. I’ve never been to Norfolk before, but everyone keeps talking about how … not great it is. I just know that I love Alexandria and glad that we didn’t choose to live in DC. We have friends living there and they’re not enjoying it too much. Biggest pet peeve with the driving is when you’re at a stoplight and if you don’t move exactly when it’s green, they honk! So I’m like yes, please honk, I will take my sweet time! I’ve been loving your creative photography!!
Welcome back to blog land!! And oh my goodness, how did I miss on IG that you got a pup?? He’s so darn cute!! Glad you’re settling in and enjoying NoVa! Have you been to Tysons Corner yet?!? Ahh, I do miss that mall!! 😉
I’m so glad you got a dog!! Military Husband lived in Virginia for awhile and loved it.
I’m glad VA is great!! My little brother is living there now but PCS’ing very, very soon! I’m sad you didn’t get to the language too but it’s good your hubby can bring home what he learns!!
I love your sweet pup!! He’s so cute. I wish we could have a dog here but it looks like we will have to wait until we get back to the mainland, so I will be loving all of the pictures you post. I am so glad that you’re liking Virginia so far, and I loved all the pictures from your road trip! Another thing I want to do once we get back to the mainland! I can’t wait to hear more about it.
Your puppy is so cute!! it really is hard to find a rental that allows dogs, but I’m glad you guys finally did! It sounds like the DC area is treating you guys well! I hope your husband is able to teach you some Slovenian! Jeff and I are currently trying to teach ourselves German, is it is definitley an adventure!
