A life lately post, since you know, I haven’t done enough of those in the past few months. I can’t say that I’m back for good, but I knew it was overdue to put a post up. And that’s where I am. It’s clear that these elusive monthly goals I tried doing are non-existent and that’s just gonna have to be okay for right now.
Life has been busy yet not at the same time. My adventuring has been at a complete standstill and I’ve noticed that it’s been somewhat of a transition (after all) when we moved here from Hawai’i. Besides my family and friends that are there, I miss how easy it was to go on a hike. Oh, and the food (poke bowls, GOOD acai bowls). Out here, it’s a little different, there’s more driving to do to get to a decent semi-rigorous hike. Yes, I’m a snob and flat trails are not hikes to me. Give me those inclines!
We’ve gone out to Shenandoah National Park during the fall time and it was absolutely beautiful. But I’m not a fan of making the drive out there, if I want to make it worth my while, we’d have to spend the whole day there. And with a puppy, he’s not quite ready for that. In the spring, it’s my plan to make it back out there and find a hike or two to go on.
Besides the lack of hiking adventures, what have I been doing? We’ve only been into do DC for urban adventures a handful of times. Museums are definitely an all day adventure and going during the weekday is the best time to go. Weekends are jam-packed! There’s a couple left that we need to see, which I’m sure we’ll get to one of these days.
Other than that, I’ve been doing kickboxing going on 3 months! I tend to change up my workout routine quite a bit and kickboxing is what I’m sticking to until we move in May. They’re a franchise and are all over the United States, mine just opened up their location in the fall, I believe. I only go about twice a week, but hoping to add 2 more days a week, if they add more morning classes. It’s a solid hour of ass-kicking. The first 15 minutes is our non-stop warm-up, which includes everyone’s favorite, burpees. Yes, I feel like a total badass and it’s amazing! I’m such a fan of kickboxing!
The holiday break was great! It was low-key since we couldn’t decide if we wanted to travel somewhere. We were planning on doing a Caribbean cruise, but that was quickly a no-go because of Zika. Yep, we’re hoping for a little one in the near future and mosquitoes just LOVE me. Better safe than sorry. A had language school until the day before Christmas Eve. He had a week off, which was probably the perfect amount of time for him. He would have been antsy to get back to learning Slovene. We’re Jewish (fun fact about me) and Chanukah fell on Christmas Eve. We drove up to Jersey to spend time with A’s family and it was nice to light the menorah together. We were only up there for a few days and for some reason we thought it was a good idea to head back home that following Monday. I’d say it’s definitely the worst time for traffic! Traffic was off and on that day, which made our commute seem longer than it really was.
For New Years, we just went to our friends’ house and kept it chill. It was a solid night playing board games and we even whipped out the Nintendo 64 for some Mario Kart and Goldeneye action! We were just trying to find ways to stay up until midnight. Not too long after, we watched the ball drop on tv, headed home and hopped into bed. To us, it was a great way to ring in the new year … we’re too old to go out somewhere. ?
Speaking of video games (feel free to skip to the end if you’re not a gamer, no hard feelings), I’ve gained a new appreciation for video games and have been playing them quite a bit. I’ve played games on Steam for while, but a few months ago we downloaded the Final Fantasy MMO for our PCs and I’ve been obsessed. I’m a new fan (sorta) of the Final Fantasy world, I grew up watching my brothers play these games. And you can bet, we were ecstatic for FFXV to come out, we even bought a new PS4 so we can play this game. Happy and proud to say that I’ve beat the game and am being a bit of a completionist. Despite all the reviews about this game, I really enjoyed playing it, but they could have done the story totally different. I wasn’t exactly happy with it. (Lunaaaaaaaaaa)
In the season of giving, we did get a few amazing presents! A got me a new 35mm lens and camera stabilizer, which hasn’t been fun to balance, for my camera and I’m in love. I’ve only taken pictures of my dog, but they’ll definitely be my go-to lens! In other words, I need to go on some adventures so I put some pictures on my feed.
Well, that has been my life lately. With the new year, I haven’t set goals for myself and I’m not sure if I’m going to. I plan on taking things one week at a time because I’ve realized that I’m not good with planning too far into the future. We have quite a few things lined up for this year before we move to Slovenia, which is in May. Judging on how quickly time has been going, moving will be here in no time. During the spring, we’re taking our familiarization trip to secure a home and all that good stuff.
Hopefully, I whip out another post soon, if not, see you when I see you!
