I actually have no idea if I ever blogged about how me and A met. I know I’ve told the story so many times, but I can’t quite recall if it’s on my blog somewhere. Since I have way too many blog posts to go through, I’ll just re-tell the story because it’s definitely a unique one.
We met through mutual friends during our junior year of college back in 2009. My volleyball teammate was dating A’s college roommate and she would constantly tell me that she found my future husband. A is a Naval Academy grad and sometimes I feel like it’s an unspeakable, so I rarely bring it up. I think A still harbors some mixed feelings about his academy days. Anyways, I was actually in a relationship at the time, but it was coming towards the end of things. Apparently I didn’t make right decisions when it came to my dating years, happens to all of us, but eventually we snag the right one, eh?
Around Halloween, I believe I added him on Facebook and wrote on his wall:
So why does so and so keep saying you’re my future husband? lol
It’s so embarrassing to read all the crap I use to post during college. Getting off topic.
Here’s what he had to say:
i think it’s because im a great guy, who’s sensitive but manly, smart but athletic, and sociable but still a one-woman guy. basically, i’m the whole package.
Hook, line and sinker! Apparently this got me, extremely cheesy, but things went forward after that. We eventually exchanged phone numbers and emails, of course. With both of us being on opposite coasts, we had to deal with the time difference, so we stuck with messaging and emails.
For nearly two weeks, we talked every day as often as we could, but were soon to meet each other for the first time. Feelings were developing a lot quicker than I anticipated, but everything felt right. Lets just say I went with my gut feeling when it came to A. People thought I was crazy for forming such a deep connection with a guy I haven’t even met. But we were on the exact same page about everything, so things were already a bit serious before we met face to face. Once the volleyball season was over, he flew me out to Maryland and to spend a weekend with him. I had a lot of different emotions going on, but excitement was the biggest one. Of course I was nervous, but I knew things would be okay and would all work out. We’ve only been talking for two walks and then I flew across the country to meet him, it all sounds very crazy! I was a bit of a risk taker during college.
Once I landed and was making my way towards baggage claim, finally seeing him, it was game over.. Things felt natural between us and it was like we’ve known each for years. We did the long distance thing and made trips to visit each other during the holidays, which I think has definitely helped with this military life and being away from each other months at a time.
I guess you can say that things happened pretty fast, by the end of that school year, we decided that I would move in with him after graduation. And it gave my parents a year to prepare for my departure, which was extremely tough.
By the time we got married in 2012, we had almost two moves under our belt, a PCS to Hawai’i and our first deployment on the way. Our lives have been in a constant forward motion and looking back at everything, time really flew by.
I know I tell people that I’m his better half, but he’s definitely mine. I’m so lucky to have him. Love you, poopface!
